He shot himself in the head (by accident). He liked to play with guns, which I find strange due to the fact that his songs are love songs (ballads if you will), not rough stuff like Little Willie John, Amos Milburn & Roy Brown who you could easily believe carry a gun always. Just a sensitive young guy with an ear for the ballads, pouring out his soul what a tragic end.
